Alfred J. OAKLEY 1878–1959
Sculptor in wood and bronze. Born 13 March 1878 at High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, son of an artist-craftsman in furniture. Studied in the provinces and at the City and Guilds School 1903–8 and 1910. Served in the R.A.M.C. 1915–18. A.R.B.S. 1921, F.R.B.S. 1938, Retired Member 1952. Exhibited at the R.A. from 1922. In his later years worked principally for churches. Died 28 April 1959 at Newbury, Berkshire.
