Artist biography

Clare ATWOOD 1866–1962

Painter of portraits, still life, landscapes, interiors and decorative flower subjects. Born 11 May 1866 at Richmond, Surrey, daughter of an architect. Studied at Westminster School of Art and the Slade School. First exhibited at the N.E.A.C. 1893; member 1912. One-man exhibition at the Carfax Gallery 1911. Commissioned to paint war scenes for the Canadian Government 1918 and presented four war paintings to the Imperial War Museum 1920. Died at Tenterden, Kent, 2 August 1962.
