Ernest M. DINKEL b. 1894
Painter of landscapes and Biblical subjects, and designer. Born 24 October 1894 at Huddersfield, Yorkshire, of German descent. Served in France 1916–19. Studied at Huddersfield and the R.C.A. 1921–5; won a Travelling Scholarship to Italy. Began exhibiting at the N.E.A.C. and R.A. 1927. Taught at the R.C.A. 1925–40. A.R.W.S. 1939, R.W.S. 1957. Head of Stourbridge School of Art 1940–7; Head of the School of Design, Edinburgh College of Art, 1947–59. Retired to Gloucestershire.
