Fred MAYOR 1865–1916

Landscape painter. Born 21 December 1865 at Winksley, near Ripon, Yorkshire. Studied at the R.C.A. under Frank Brangwyn and at the Académie Julian, Paris. Lived for a time at Amberley, Sussex, where he came under the influence of Edward Stott, visited Morocco in the late 1890s, and lived in France 1902–10. Exhibited at the N.E.A.C. from 1908 and the Leicester Galleries. Member of the International Society 1915. Died 10 January 1916 in London. Memorial exhibition at the Guillaume Galleries 1929. His son, of the same name, is a well-known London art dealer.
