Artist biography

James A. STEVENSON 1881–1937

Sculptor of portrait busts and monumental figures. Born 18 October 1881 in Chester. Studied at the Chester School of Art, awarded a scholarship to the R.C.A. 1900, and in 1905 visited Italy on a travelling scholarship. Landseer Scholar in Sculpture at the R.A. Schools 1906. Signed all his work with the pseudonym ‘Myrander’. Exhibited at the R.A. from 1906. Became an associate of the R.B.S. in 1908 and a fellow in 1926. Died in London 5 October 1937.
