Artist biography

Morland LEWIS 1903–1943

Genre and portrait painter. Born 25 May 1903 at Carmarthen. Studied at St John's Wood School of Art, the R.A. Schools and later under Sickert. Exhibited with the London Group from 1929; member 1931. One-man exhibition with the London Artists' Association, of which he was also a member, 1930. Taught at Chelsea School of Art. Served as Camouflage Officer and died in North Africa 4 August 1943. Memorial exhibition at the Leicester Galleries 1944.
