W. Y. MACGREGOR 1855–1923
Scottish landscape painter. Born 14 October 1855 at Finnart, Loch Goil. Studied in Glasgow under Greenlees and Docharty and at the Slade School under Legros. Met James Paterson in 1878 and was, with him, one of the founders of the ‘Glasgow School’. Exhibited at the R.S.A. from 1875 (A.R.S.A. 1898; R.S.A. 1921) and twice at the R.A.; member of the R.S.W.S. 1885–1906 and the N.E.A.C. 1892. Travelled on the Continent 1886–90. Died 28 September 1923 at Oban.
