T00597 CIVILIZATION: THE JUDGE 1962

Exh: R.A., 1963 (1226).
One of a proposed edition of six casts of the maquette for the large figure in cement which was also exhibited at the R.A., 1963 (1267). There was also a watercolour, ‘The Judge’, in the same exhibition (903). The artist wrote (15 August 1963) that T00597 was the first three-dimensional design for the large sculpture, and that he had made various other studies in watercolours at about the same time, early in 1962. ‘“The Judge” is one of a series of sculptures I intend to make on the theme Civilization.
