The artist wrote (4 March 1956) that this was painted from a window in Bruton Street during the building of Berkeley Square House at the corner of Bruton Street and Berkeley Square. A daytime view of the same site from another angle was exhibited at the same year's R.A. (400) and is reproduced in the Royal Academy Illustrated, 1938, p.26.
