Lit: Michael Mazur, 'The Monoprints of Naum Gabo' in Print Collector's Newsletter, IX, No.s, 1978, pp.148-51
Gabo's intention was to produce a number of portfolios (an edition of 25), each containing one monoprint taken from each of the twelve blocks he engraved between 1950 and 1973. From about 1970 on, he was mainly concerned with the presentation of the portfolio, but rejected so many plans that the project was still unrealised and in a preliminary state at the time of his death.
Mrs Gabo wrote that this cover design was intended to be executed in leather on leather. However Naum Gabo did not like the trial one and had in mind to discard it in favour of a plainer cover (letter of 17 August 1977).
