During the period Gwen John spent at Meudon she became very friendly with the Sisters of the Presentation who cared for orphan children. The artist did numerous pictures of these children and also made sketches of children on her holidays in Brittany. See T00155. It is difficult to date or place this drawing more accurately than c. 1914–20.
