In this suite of ten woodcuts Judd explored the relationship of centre to margins, and of colour to blank space, through five pairs of mirror images. Each pair divides the rectilinear plane of the paper in a different way. The focus on minimal form and serial imagery is typical of Judd's work, both printed and three-dimensional. Judd considered this particular suite of woodcuts to be such a complete expression of his printmaking that he produced editions of it in three different colours: red, black, and the blue shown here.
