N05604N05606 are casts from three of the fourteen maquettes (eight for a sculpture in stone, one for a sculpture in terracotta, and five for one in bronze; see Read and Sylvester, op. cit., pp.14–15) made 1944–5 in connexion with a ‘Family Group’ commissioned by the Impington Village College, Cambridgeshire, but never executed.

N05604 is one of seven casts from one of the models for a sculpture in stone, 1944, and was subsequently used for the life-size ‘Family Group’ in Hadene stone at Harlow New Town, 1954–5.

A related drawing, dated 1944, belongs to Miss Jill Craigie (repr. Read and Sylvester, op. cit., p.254).
