Croissants, steeply-raking surfaces and intense sidelighting are all features of the somewhat earlier paintings of Giorgio de Chirico, whom Morris admired and whose first one-man exhibition was held, in 1919, at the same gallery as Morris's in 1922, the Casa d'Arte Bragaglia, Rome.
