Presented and previously catalogued as ‘Gainsborough's Lane’, the title of another painting formerly in the possession of Julian Lousada (exhibited R.A., 1933 (501), as measuring 13 ×10 1/2 in.). N04781 was first exhibited at the N.E.A.C. as ‘The Cornfield’, but appeared at the R.A. Winter Exhibition, 1933, as ‘The Cornfield, Ipswich’.
