Display caption
This lithograph is one of two commissioned by Westminster School. Piper did not make many paintings or drawings of places in London, except when specifically commissioned. He had not lived there since soon after giving up his first career as a lawyer, and he preferred to work in isolated places where he could not be overlooked.
Typically, there are no people in this view, which looks as if it were seen at night.
