T03682 Study for the Attendant in ‘The Princess Badroulbadour’ c.1908
Red chalk on paper 15 1/4 × 11 (387 × 281)
Presented by Sir John Rothenstein through the Friends of the Tate Gallery 1983
This drawing is a study for Rothenstein's painting ‘The Princess Badroulbadour’ (1908, N03953), a portrait of his three children, John, Betty and Rachel, in fancy dress. It is of his son, but in the painting the pose with folded arms was used for one of his daughters. Sir John Rothenstein gave to the Tate Gallery in 1970 another drawing of himself by his father, also a study for this painting (T01248).
