Televised images of the Gulf War inspired Ruff to use a night-vision device, giving this photograph its colour and blurring effect. One of a series of night pictures, it depicts a banal, empty scene made sinister by the sophisticated technique associated with military action and surveillance. Ruff has suggested that 'each place is the potential scene of a crime'. He is interested in drawing attention to the different techniques used in photography, which often determine the interpretation of his work.
