Stothard made these studies in preparation for a series of illustrations to Cervantes’ Don Quixote. Some of the illustrations were engraved by Blake and published
in weekly instalments of The Novelist’s Magazine. One of Stothard’s illustrations of Don Quixote can be seen in a display case in the middle of this room.
