Catalogue entry

The scale of the mountains in this view seems to indicate that we are in central Snowdonia, and although it has not been identified for certain, it seems likely that it shows Llyn Gwynant, looking north towards the peaks of Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach partly in cloud on the skyline. It is worked up in dense, rich watercolour like the view of Maes-y-garnedd on folio 52 recto (D01349; Turner Bequest XXXVIII 95).
