Catalogue entry

This is a view of Alnwick’s parish church from the west, with its heavily buttressed tower. David Hill notes the steep mound on which the church was built, and the consequent need for sturdy, multiple-stepped buttresses to support the tower. Harry Madgwick points out that the well in the foreground was removed in road-widening.
Blank; stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram.
