Continued from folio 14 (D25952; CCLXVII 14) with the sketchbook inverted is a sketch of the interior of Melrose Abbey, here showing the window at the south transept. With the book turned to the left are a series of studies made in the abbey. In the centre of these studies is a diagram of the fan vaulting above the chancel, with a sketch beneath this of the vaulting in the south transept. Other sketches are of mouldings including two capitals. There are further studies on folio 12 verso (D25949; CCLXVII 12a).
For more information on Turner’s visit to Melrose see folio 12 (D25948; CCLXVII 12).
