With the sketchbook turned to the right are a series of studies of windows and architectural features of Melrose Abbey. At the top is part of the window of the south transept, and at the bottom of the page is part of the east window. Other sketches are of buttresses and niches. There are further studies of this nature on folio 13 verso (D25951; CCLXVII 13a). For more information on Turner’s visit to Melrose see folio 12 (D25948; CCLXVII 12).
