Catalogue entry

The subject is copied from a view by Paul Sandby (1730–1809) engraved by M. Watts 1777, for A Collection of One Hundred and Fifty Select Views in England, Scotland, and Ireland, drawn by Paul Sandby, Esqr., R.A., vol.I, 1781, pl.37, published 1 October 1777. Stylistically the drawing is close to the View of Nuneham Courtenay from the Thames (Tate D00002; Turner Bequest I B), but perhaps executed a little earlier.
Blank; inscribed in a later hand ‘Turner Unmted, Vol. 92’; stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram.
