Catalogue entry

This part of Turner’s view of the castellated north front of Gibside, a brief continuation of the main view on folio 8 recto opposite (D12270; CLVI 7), is not mentioned in Finberg’s 1909 Inventory, where he notes under CLVI 7: ‘Apparently continued on another page, which is now missing.’1 The recto of the present leaf (D12265) is CLVI 4, indicating either that the leaves of the book were bound in a different sequence or that some or all were loose at in Finberg’s time, since the continuity of the composition across the two pages as now bound is self-evidently correct.

Technical notes:
There is staining around an old repair to a tear half way down the left-hand edge.
