Catalogue entry

A detail of a pinnacle of the church is drawn separately, above the top right of the subject. Turner noted John Landseer’s commission for a watercolour of this subject on the flyleaf (D41250). No finished work is known, and the subject was not engraved. As noted under folio 37 recto (D00444; Turner Bequest XXIV 36), the church of St Lawrence at Godshill is the burial place of the Worsley family of Appuldurcombe.
The drawing was made with the page turned horizontally.
Verso:
Blank; stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram.
