Catalogue entry

Turner circled the Lake of Albano and made sketches from several different points. This view of the town of Castel Gandolfo from the northern end of the lake shows the dome of San Tommaso di Villanova and the adjacent buildings of the Pope’s summer villa.
For a full discussion of Turner’s depictions of Lake Albano see folio 3 verso (D15301) and the general introduction to the sketchbook.
