Catalogue entry

There are two similar views here, along the valley to Castleton and Peveril Castle above it, looking west as Ian Warrell has noted.1 Turner’s series of ‘P’ inscriptions is obscure. The note at the bottom right relates to a slight continuation from the nearby views on folio 48 recto opposite (D22239). For other views of the village, the castle and Peak Cavern, see under folio 1 verso (D22152).
