Perhaps connected with the watercolour of Woolverhampton, Staffordshire (Wolverhampton Art Gallery);1 see folio 9 recto (D00270). Other fairground studies in this book are on folios 15 recto and verso, 16 recto and 35 verso (D00276–D00278, D00311). Note the drawing of Wolverhampton church in the Matlock sketchbook (Tate D00229; Turner Bequest XIX 21). J.P. Heseltine2 suggested ‘Greenwich Fair’.
