Catalogue entry

From Berne, where he bought this sketchbook, Turner travelled the approximately seventeen miles down the valley of the Aare to Thun, where the river flows into the western end of Lake Thun. After investigating the town itself, for which see folios 6 and 48 (D04654, D04705), he set off by boat along the lake to Unterseen. This is one of a number of sketches in this book made during the passage. It has several finger prints in reddish wash.
