First published as the frontispiece-vignette to vol.XVII of the 'Life and Works' of Byron, this design was based on a drawing by William Page. The Byronic connection is more biographical than poetic; on Ithaca in the summer of 1823 Byron visited the so-called 'School of Homer', one of many Mycenaean outcrops on the island.
