Catalogue entry

Finberg identified the four sketches on this page as views on the Seine and one at Montmartre. The Seine sketches are at the top of the page with a barge and bridge, and another thumbnail sketch of a bridge in the top-right corner of the bottom sketch. The middle sketch is inscribed ‘Mont Mater’ and depicts a view down the hill towards the Seine with gates in the foreground at the right. There is a panoramic sketch of Paris from Montmartre on folios 33 verso–34 (Tate D18577–D18578; Turner Bequest CCXI 33a–34).
