Hill notes a sketch of the identical view in the River sketchbook of the early 1820s (Tate D17786; Turner Bequest CCIV 9a) and a nearer view from further to the left in the Hesperides (1) sketchbook (Tate D05809; Turner Bequest XCIII 26a). This is a slight but essentially factual view of Robert Mylne’s Pavilion at the Isleworth corner of Syon Park. It is shown with its flanking wings, whereas elsewhere in this sketchbook it is transformed into a free-standing temple-like structure; see folio 3 for further comment (D05494).
