Turner passed the chapel, built in 1388 commemorating William Tell, on his voyage to Fluelen for which see folio 41 of this sketchbook (D04698). This and another view of the chapel on folio 71 (D04731) were later used as the basis of his design (Tate D27672; Turner Bequest CCLXXX 155) for the plate in Samuel Rogers’s Italy, 1830.
