That man the price of lead not state
Can [?Thomson] cross only feel applause
Why native honor bleeds in England’s cause
Perish the common lot the constant toil
Pardon my muse the envious might
Then embark for my country's weal
Each pendant dew drop oer the dawn to steel

The name of James Thomson, poet of The Seasons (1730), may be mentioned here. A further sixteen lines, now largely illegible, run from the opposite end of the cover board.
