A variant of the landscape composition with Diana and Actaeon drawn on folio 23 of the sketchbook (D06213), for which see catalogue note for further comment. Here the narrative is less clearly defined and as Hill points out, the wooded setting is also comparable to sketches for The Goddess of Discord Choosing the Apple of Contention in the Garden of the Hesperides exhibited in 1806 (Tate N00477).1
