Drawn with the sketchbook inverted. These are the ruins of the priory and church of Minster Abbey on the Isle of Sheppey, where Turner must have come ashore. Founded in 664, partially rebuilt in Norman times and dissolved in 1536, the buildings had fallen into disuse. The church was restored and opened for worship in the later nineteenth century.
