Finberg’s ‘Continuation’ is of the pencil view of Heathfield Park on folio 41 verso (D10261; CXXXVII 41a), here showing the dense trees behind the house, bordered by the Horsham to Hailsham Road as depicted in Turner’s watercolour made for John Fuller about 1816 (British Museum, London)1 and subsequently engraved by William Bernard Cooke for Views in Sussex.
Finberg does not mention the extensive offsetting from the watercolour on folio 42 recto opposite (D10260; Turner Bequest CXXXVII 41), which may show the Eddystone Lighthouse. Although Eric Shanes lists the present page along with others in this book as a study of the lighthouse,2 the watercolour here appears to have been deposited fortuitously, perhaps as a consequence of the 1928 Tate Gallery flood.
