Drawn with the sketchbook inverted. As was suggested in the 1975 Bicentenary exhibition catalogue, the scenery here looks like Lakeland, which would indicate a date of 1809 when Turner seems to have taken the sketchbook to Cumbria; see Introduction and notes to folios 71 verso, 72 verso and 73 verso (D10316, D10314, D10315; Turner Bequest CXXXVII 72, 70, 71).
