Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
This view of Rye was rightly identified by Finberg as from the north, on the road from Appledore which runs near the Royal Military Canal and the River Rother. There is a similar view from closer to the town, from the Rother, on folio 59 verso of the sketchbook (D10511; Turner Bequest CXL 52a).
