As well as drawing the Strand Gate from below on Strand Hill as it rises to enter the town, on folio 67 verso of the sketchbook (D10527; Turner Bequest CXL 60a). Here Turner has drawn it from the other side as approached from the High Street. He is looking past the gate down the hill over the roofs of the former workhouse (now Strand House) and Bridge Inn, both drawn on folio 63 verso (D10519; Turner Bequest CXL 56a), towards Rye.
