Finberg’s ‘lake’ is the River Thames, seen on the right, with the Petersham meadows to its left. There is a faint indication of a wall on the left, perhaps that of The Wick, for which see folios 86 verso and 87of this sketchbook (D10565, D10566; Turner Bequest CXL 78a, 79), indicating that the view was taken from the top of Nightingale Lane.
