This is the slighter of two sketches in this sketchbook showing The Wick at the corner of Richmond Hill and Nightingale Lane; the other, on folio 87 (D10566; Turner Bequest CXL 79) shows the larger Wick House alongside. The Wick was designed for Lady St Aubyn by Robert Mylne. Butlin and Joll cite this drawing along with others running to folio 90 (D10572; Turner Bequest CXL 82) as similar in general terms to the composition of England: Richmond Hill, on the Prince Regent’s Birthday (Tate N00502)1 exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1819.
