There are three separate subjects on this leaf, all drawn with the sketchbook inverted. The top half is occupied by a cloudy sky broken by shafts of light or perhaps showers of rain, continued on folio 29 (D10383). Below it are separate sketches divided by a faint vertical line. On the left is a sea-shore with figures and what appears to be the sun at different heights in the sky over water to right of a cliff. If this is at Hastings, as seems likely, the sun would be rising. To right of this sketch is another of a sun dipping below or rising above water on the horizon.
