Typically of Turner’s sketchbook practice the inside covers are utilised for quick sketches. The drawings on this page therefore relate to subjects covered elsewhere in the sketchbook. At the top of the page, drawn with the book turned to the left, is an architectural drawing of a domed roof, inscribed by Turner ‘An ornamental band round the cupola’. Below it, a few lines indicate a landscape. The drawing is too slight to be identifiable, but from the proximity of a drawing of Fast Castle on the opposite page (folio 68 verso; D13444; CLXV 66a), it may show the same location. In the centre of the page, drawn with the book in its usual landscape orientation, is a sketch of a castle, which resembles Borthwick. There are a few pencil marks at the bottom of the page.
