Continued from folio 16 (D13479) is a sketch of North Shields and the River Tyne from Fish Quays, the oldest part of the town. This part of the sketch shows the quayside, the beach to the east of the town and the view west along the north coast of the Tyne in the direction of Newcastle. The right of the sketch can be seen one of the town’s harbour lights. This is probably the decommissioned old beacon.
For more information on Turner’s visit to North and South Shields and his sketches of the town and surrounding area, see folio 13 (D13473).
