Continued from folio 58 verso (D13562), this view west along the Firth of Forth contains extensive colour notes by Turner of ‘the Effect of Twylight near Edinburgh’ (see 58 verso for full description). Without watercolour Turner has had to inscribe different parts of the picture with the names of colours. With the sun setting and being replaced by the light of a crescent moon, the sky is lit up red, grey, yellow, brown and blue. The inscriptions are as follows.
