Turner has divided this page into four distinct landscape views. The schematic nature of the three uppermost sketches suggests that they might have been drawn quickly whilst on the move. Their rough appearance makes them difficult to identify although the second drawing from the top appears to be a view of Castel Gandolfo from the west. The locations of the other two remain unknown.
The last sketch at the bottom is more carefully delineated and was probably drawn at a different time. Turner has labelled this view ‘Frascati’ and it possibly shows one of the many villas which lie to the south and east of the town with the mountains in the distance beyond.
For a discussion of the inscribed date on this page see the general introduction to the sketchbook.
