This page contains sketches of fragments of antique sculpture and decorative casts. The identity of the piece or the location where Turner saw it has not yet been identified although it may be part of a ruin from the Roman Forum. Alternatively, it might represent part of Turner’s exploration of the Capitoline or Vatican Museums in Rome, contained principally within the Vatican Fragments sketchbook (Turner Bequest; CLXXX).
