This drawing of a crowd of people is the second sketch of guests at the Peers’ Ball in Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms on 23 August 1822. The first sketch (folio 47; D17585) has been identified as showing the Supper Room, a temporary extension to the building, accessed through the second ball room, the windows of which were removed. In this sketch the crowd appear to be filing into the ballroom through one of the archways.
